Customer Reviews:
Best Hoops game on ANY platform, August 16, 2002
Reviewer: Matthieu P. Raillard from Charlottesville, VA United States
I used to LOVE EA Sports's NBA Live series. But, EA started putting emphasis on Dunks and fancy animations, whereas Sega's NBA 2K series concentrated on the nuances of basketball. Whereas in NBA Live every other shot is a dunk (even on the top difficulty level), in this game you have to work for your points, and John Stockton is not going to dunk on Shaq (Something that I saw in Live 2002; I returned that game within a couple of days).

GRAPHICS: Very good. The faces and coaches could use some work, though.
NIMATION: Superb. The spins, jukes and dunks are all very real.
CONTROL: Very good, with a bit of a learning curve. The new "deflect pass" option is the best innovation in years.
OVERALL: A solid "A".

AN OK BUT DISAPOINTING GAME!!, July 31, 2002
Reviewer: A gamer from California
i was really disapointed with sega in there developement of this game in the new generation of high speed graphics they could have done much better/ the players faces are high-def but need some work especially the Kings players, if you like basketball i would recomend this game it is fun especially season mode the only thing im saying is that sega needs to either get it together or get back down to makin dreamcast ONLY games

do not buy this game!, July 15, 2002

NBA 2k2, July 5, 2002
Reviewer: gk2k2 from New York, USA
I enjoy NBA 2K2 mainly because it won my heart a few years ago as the NBA sim of choice and this latest version on Xbox is the best VC hoop game out there. The established animation-physics system and tough-as-nails AI have kept millions of gamers locked to their TVs for hours at a time always playing "just one more" and I'm one of them. On the Xbox, the game looks better than ever and plays the same as I remember from Dreamcast.

Visual Concepts' basketball engine will likely be refined even more when 2K3 comes out and this will be a great thing for all gamers. High Voltage's surprisingly solid engine for NBA Inside Drive 2002 has suddenly turned the NBA sim derby into a two horse race. Now that Sega Sports has established itself on other consoles with the 2K2 rounds of football and basketball, both as solid as expected, the future is going to be a bright one indeed for sports gamers.

Upon its release NBA 2K2 will be the best NBA sim available on the Xbox, getting the nod over Inside Drive because Microsoft's game lacked way too many features to be taken as a wholehearted effort. If you've been talking to your Xbox, waiting for your first hoop game, NBA 2K2 is it.

Fun game- but made my x-box crash, July 2, 2002

Fun game, with many options for play. Only problem was it kept making my x-box console crash. No other game was a problem for the console. Fun to play though.

Best Basketball Game Availible for the XBOX, April 26, 2002
Reviewer: ffootballguru27 from St. Cloud, MN
This is by far the best Sega Sports game and a great game for Sega's first for the XBOX. Basketball is my game and Sega's NBA 2K2 is definitely the best basketball video game available for any system. This game is plagued by only a few minor flaws.

The gameplay is simply amazing. I like the idea of having a direct pass button on offense, and a button on defense to play defense like in real life shuffling your feet and all. Shooting is very easy and effective especially if you release the ball at the top of your jump shot.

The graphics are great although not as good as EA's NBA Live 2002. The players are easily identified to their NBA counterpart and Allen Iverson has his Iverson shoes.

The rosters are very up-to-date and if a trade happens don't worry about the game being out of date just go to customize to do the trade yourself. And when draft time comes around just create that player onto their new team.

The Franchise mode is great. You get to lead your team through multiple seasons with trades, free agency, and retirements. You can also choose to play with the teams NBA rosters or do a fantasy draft where you can have any NBA players.

The announcing is great although repetitive more times than not. When Iverson scores a lot they always say the same thing and are always saying the same thing usually twice a game, but they are still very realistic and actually seem to be watching the game unlike other games announcers.

The only thing about this game that could have been made a little better are the graphics and the gameplay because when you post up you almost always get a wide open layup or step out of bounds for no reason at all.

Overall this is the best basketball game available for the XBOX right now. This game for the XBOX is better than Live and is also available on the PS2, GameCube and Dreamcast.

So Close to Immortality, April 8, 2002

This game is superior almost every category (gameplay, graphics, sound, fun, etc.) but falls short b/c of some silly decisions involving game play modes.

You can't create a player and use him in Franchise Mode. If you play Franchise Mode, you must play an 82 game season every year (instead of shorter lengths available in single season mode). Those two things really made me think, "I wish they didn't design the game like this."

But sure as sugar, I like playing and can't wait for them to get all the little things right next year.

SEGA SPORTS HAS DONE IT AGAIN!, April 5, 2002
Reviewer: Naveed Majd from Calabasas, CA
I rented this game yesterday, and didn't stop playing till now. It has gorgeous graphics and a variety of different modes, such as:
FRANCHISE
SEASON
PLAYOFFS
STREET
TOURNAMENT
EXHIBITION
Before renting this game I researched on NBA LIVE AND INSIDE DRIVE. After reading all the reviews I decided to rent this game. All of the rosters are updated. You can play with all nba teams including western conference, eastern conference, and legends of the past years. Such as Larry Bird, Dr. J, Magic Johnson, etc... When you are playing this game it is really realistic. You don't make every wide open shot. Sometimes you might get a little luck here and there, but overall it is a chalenging game. Also the computer is not that easy to beat, and have to try really hard. As you can see, the pros outweigh the cons.

1. BRILLIANT GRAPHICS
2. PLAYER INTRODUCTIONS AT THE BEGGINING OF EVERY GAME
3. HAS CREATE A PLAYER MODE AND SIGNING AND RELEASING PLAYERS FROM THIS TEAM TO THAT TEAM
4. HIGH FLYING DUNKS
5. GREAT COMMENTARY

1. SCOREBOARD MIGHT BE HARD TO READ AT TIMES
2. PLAYERS AND COACHES DO NOT LOOK LIKE HOW THEY DO IN REAL LIFE

Overall this is the best basketball game out there. If you want to buy a basketball game, get NBA 2K2!!!

WARNING: DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!, April 3, 2002

This is, by far, the worse basketball game ever developed.

It would be an understatement to say that 50% of the time that you pass the ball, its stolen. When playing against a friend, all you have to do is hit the jump button when someone goes to pass and you will steal the ball away. On top of that, this game has absolutely no player ratings. There is no way to check what categories your players are good or bad in. I find that especially horrifying, considering that I was able to check player ratings on my 1992 NBA game (Bulls vs Blazers for Sega).

Simply the Best!, March 31, 2002

I absolutely love this game! It is THE BEST basketball game for the "X". Everything about this game is beautiful. Incredibly fast load times! This game is soo much fun to play especially since MJ is finally back in the game! (Sega Sports continue to dominate the field!)
