Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 is an ok game.
When looking at others reviews most disliked the game an didn't like it at all. This game is not that bad,I think I would go with Project Gothume, Sega GT 2,or maybe even GT 3 for Playstation 2. I would reccomend it to any one that likes racing cars or the show COPS. But I think there is one thing missing they don't have enough cars! This game only has about 10 to 15 cars while Project Gothume has about 23 cars. And GT 3 has about as many cars as there is in the world right now. One other thing if you don't like racing cars and prefer suping them up this game is not for you, and go with Grand Tusimo 3.

Not the best racing/driving game out there, November 10, 2002

I rented this game and played it quite a bit. It is not bad but the physics stink. Adding to what others mentioned. If I get spun around in a McLaren or any high horsepower RWD car in a tight area, why can't I stomp on it and blow the rear around to get going again? Why when I hit the wall instead of bouncing off the way I am traveling with momentum, I spin around the opposite direction? It's a fun game, but the frustrating physics just [ticked] me off too many times to actually go out and buy it. Looks like I am still going back and playing Gotham Racing and Rallisport Challenge which to me are still better driving/racing games. The only good thing about NFS is the cops chasing you.

Great Racing. Some issues., October 26, 2002

I went back to the store and exchanged this game once I realized there are a lot more issues with FPS than I initially thought, so this review has been edited by me. Playing the game straight for 8 hours, you won't notice anything about the FPS.

After a game of RalliSport Challenge, however, the FPS drawback is obvious. Back in Need for Speed, I felt like I was in a sailing-boat on the road. Driving 100+ mph, everything around me moved unrealistically slow.

As someone else mentioned, cars driving on the left hand side in US locales is quite annoying. And where on the world does the police drive Dodge Vipers? I need to get me a job there. Aside of that, it's pretty good racing. In 1st person view, it's good fun to ride the car. It responds rather well to the controls. But, enter FPS. FPS is a problem when many things happen at once. Those times, it can slow down to a crawl.... The second graphics problem is clipping. Cars are clipped in and out quite often, including police-cars. Summarize the clipping as: "now you see me, now you don't." It seems amateurish to release a game where FPS obviously can't handle peak-moments, and clipping is a major problem. At least on the PC, a patch could've been shipped. All that said, it can't take away from the game that it's pretty fun driving, provided that you play this game only. If you own other racing games, you won't stick around for this one very long because the FPS is too poor. Definitely not a keeper.

I am a fan of the NFS series. I enjoy this game but for some reason I like older versions better. If you do like racing and running from cops (who doesn't!), or if you like being a cop, then you will not go wrong with this game.

Worth Buying!, October 17, 2002

I had my doubts about this game, but I went ahead and bought from best buy. The game is a lot funner than I thought. The game is nice and arcadey, but with a realistic feel. not as arcadey as rush.

You start off with a few cars in single challenge mode, but as you work your way through the Hot Pursuit and Championship, you earn more and more points and can buy more cars with those points. There are many supercars to choose from like the Lamborghini Diablo, Lamborghini Murcielago, McLaren F1, Ferarri F50 and many others. The gameplay is fast and relatively easy. You get a good steady framerate at high speeds and the cops act realistic, maybe too much, at times. I have a few minor complaints, though. When you skid up against the side of something, its like there is superglue or the side of your car and you hit it or it messes you up. Also the po pos or police can be a little hard on you when you have a slower car as they constantly turn you around and make you run into walls, which can get unbearably annoying at times of high pressure like tournaments... The jump camera that comes on when you hit a high jump is fun to watch, though and if you hit something going fast enough you can really gets some good air. i recommend this game to anyone who likes a little arcadey racing.

I gotta say that I was looking foward to this title, and I bought it as soon as I saw it on the shelf. My wife and I were big fans of the game for the PS1, so we expected this version for the Xbox to be updated with better graphics, cars and tracks.

Nope.

The graphics are terrible. It's hard to believe that Porsche Unleashed for my PC looks 100x better than this game, and the Xbox has a better graphics card inside it!

The physics for the cars are awful, vehical damage has been scaled WAY back as well.

The only thing I do like is the music. Can this be played as a CD?
