IF YOU PUT THE TIME IN &LOOK OVER THE -'S REWARDS ARE THERE, November 12, 2002

IN A RECENT REVIEW I SAW THE GUY SAID THERE WAS ONLY ONE SET OF SSPORT TIRES, NOT TRUE. I BOUGHT SEGA GT 2002 ON 11/10/02. TWO DAYS LATER AFTER PLAYING THE GAME FOR 15 HOURS I WON MY SS CLASS LICENSE AND EARNED THE VIPER GTS-R AND FORD GT. AND I OPENED UP ABOUT FIVE NEW PARTS YOU CAN USE TO UPGRADE YOUR CARS TO "SUPER CARS". IF YOU REALLY LIKE RACING GAMES DON'T PASS UP GT 2002. TRUE, THIS GAME HAS A LOT MORE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PUT INTO IT. BUT DON'T LET THE -'S STOP YOU FROM PLAYING THIS GAME.

YOU WANT TO SEE, FEEL, AND HEAR SOMETHING REALLY COOL AND AWESOME? GET THE CORVETTE Z06, UPGRADE IT TO SUPER CAR STATUS AS MUCH AS YOU CAN AND DRIVE IT ON SPEED RING PUSHING IT AS FAST AND HARD AS YOU CAN. IF YOUR THOUGHT THE Z06 WAS AWESOME IN PROJECT GOTHAM RACING, WAIT TIL YOU GET IT IN GT 2002 AND UPGRADE IT TO A SUPER CAR. YOUR EARS AND EYES WILL BE IN SHOCK. WHAT THE FERRARI F-50 WAS TO PROJECT GOTHAM RACING, THE CORVETTE Z06 IS TO SEGA GT 2002. DON'T BELIEVE ME? GET SEGA GT 2002 AND TRY IT YOUR SELF. ONE MORE THING, JUST AS IN PROJECT GOTHAM RACING, YOUR DRIVING SKILLS WILL BE S-E-V-E-R-E-L-Y TESTED. EVEN WITH ALL THE UPGRADES YOU WON'T GET NOTHING FREE IN THIS RACER. YOU WILL WORK FOR EVERY THING YOU WIN AND WANT. TRUST ME, YOU WIL NEED YOUR DRIVING SKILLS.

Not a patch on GT3, November 9, 2002

This was touted as a rival to GT3. I can assure you that this game isn't even in the same league as GT3!

The environment graphics are bland and blocky, with poor color and definition. I would expect much better from the XBOX (have a look at Colm McRea Rally 3 for excellent graphics in a driving game).

The controls are good, and the cars are fun to drive in challange mode.

But in GT mode: Starting off with a Fiat Punto and winning only $4000 a race means you'll have to have a lot of patience before you start actually racing.

Quite a dissapointment.

What can you say about this game? The first few hours I played this game I didn't really love it. The cars in quick battle tend to understeer and the racetracks are not as beautiful as seen in Grantourismo 3 on PS2 (Seattle Circuit...). But when you're playing Sega GT2002 mode...this game is highly addictive. The first car you can buy is a Fiat, go to your first races start tuning and saving for new cars. Here the pros and cons:

+nice looking cars
+fine sound
+motivating career mode
+nice enemy AI
+pay for your mistakes
+good (tuned) car handling
+2d animated spectators
+blurring air at higher speeds
+tune your car and let your opponents breathe dust
-I'd like more tuning options
-I've seen better trees and landscapes
-I'd like more tracks
-drag races vs cpu in split screen only
-stupid replay studio
-no rain, fog...
-only one type of sport tires
-no calibration for analog controller/racing wheels

That's a lot of "-", but this one is well worth your purchase and comes with my unqualified recommendation.

stop your bitching about the 13k!, October 27, 2002

i thought that this was a really good game. it has great handling and is fun to drive. i cant believe there are people complaining about being given 13k to start off with. its a decent amount of money and youll be able to get a good car. i got a fiat punto ant it was allright because after a couple of races you can beef it up and then youll be able to beet them all. games arent meant to be easy and if your complaining about that you wont beat many

Fun But Not Very Challenging, October 24, 2002

The obvious choice for a comparison of this game is Gran Turismo 3. GT3, however, is in a class by itself. Sega GT 2002 stands well by itself. The graphics are sharp and good looking if not a little blocky. The lighting and weather are well done but with little variation. It's mostly daytime or early evening. The Rally course is a good looking night course with snow.

The physics are good and controlling the cars is easy enough.

The cars are plentiful and once you start winning races you can build up money fast. I found the starting cash low and your first car is going to be less then impressive. I started off with a Corolla. If you don't get a license right away you can win several races without modifying the car, which allows you to save money fast. I haven't played a lot yet but there seem to be a wide range of autos to choose from.

If I have one complaint it would be that so far the game is almost too easy. Over all it's a well rounded game.

Gran Turismo for the Xbox, October 12, 2002

This is basically Xbox's version of Gran Turismo. The graphics and even music are very similar to GT3, although a tad better looking on Xbox. I still like Gotham a lot more. For a driving sim fan you have to add this to your library even if you already have Gotham, because these are two different styles of racing/driving sims.

Fun for a while, but..., October 10, 2002

This game is basically a lesser version of Gran Turismo 3 for XBOX. It is fun for about 10 hours of playtime, but after that, I lost interest (compared to about 100 hours of GT3 playtime before losing interest). If you don't already have Project Gotham Racing, or Gran Turismo 3 and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 for PS2 (don't bother with the XBOX version), those are all much better than Sega GT 2002. But if you are a racing fanatic and have already seen everything else under the sun, Sega GT 2002 will hold your interest for a week or two.

5 star action, 1 star 'story', October 10, 2002

Schizophrenic game. Great action, beautiful graphics, excellent choice of fairly realistic cars in quick race mode, good playability, excellent simulation of different cars' handling. I played this game for nearly two weeks just in quick race mode before I decided to try the 'storyline' game.

Boy, was that a mistake.

You start with a ridiculously small amount of money to buy a car with, and as far as I can tell, there's only one or two Diddy Kong-style junk cars you can buy. And you're going to be racing them for a while, since the most you can win in the early races is $4,000 - and the AI is a tough opponent (which seems to be able to corner at an unearthly rate of speed you'll never match). Now, I don't mind some dues-paying in these win/unlock/win/unlock-type games...but THE CAR IN MY GARAGE GOES FASTER THAN THE CAR YOU HAVE TO START WITH. Fun factor was pretty low after the first few races. I began with $13,000 to start my, uh, pro racing career, at which point a friend of mine burst out laughing and said, "you've got $13K in the bank and you want to be a professional racing driver?" It's a good point. Sega - you dropped the ball here. At least let people start with a Civic or something in the ballpark of respectability.

it doesnt ketch up with project gotham which is 90 miles an hour better than this one. the cars you start off with are not enjoyable and the driving is fine but it just doesn't have the potential of project gotham racing. stay away!
